About the Workshop

Whose Catapult Throws the Farthest

Build. Test. Tweak. Try Again.

Give ten young engineers the same materials, 90 minutes and one challenge: Can you build a catapult that throws the ball the farthest?

There are no instructions. Children figure it out through questions, teamwork, testing and trial-and-error.

They’ll explore:

Pull & Force – How much pull does the arm need?
Angle – What angle sends the ball farther?
Weight – Why can a lighter ball travel farther?
Engineering – Change one thing, test and build again.

Along the way, children experience concepts like stored energy, levers, force, angle and weight—not just as definitions, but by actually building and testing them.
