A team of Cambridge-Certified Teachers of English that offers thoughtfully designed programs to spark the love for expression in children

About the Class

Tucked away in the quiet corners of an old attic lie forgotten letters, dusty journals, and unfinished thoughts—waiting to be found. Essays from the Attic is a five-day creative writing journey designed for curious young writers to explore, question, and create.

In this cozy, theme-based course, children will discover different forms of writing through memories, everyday wonders, and personal experiences. Through thought-provoking prompts, interactive activities, and guided discussions, they will learn to think deeply, write clearly, and express themselves with confidence while discovering their unique voice.

What They Will Explore:
• Expository Writing – Explain ideas and concepts with clarity and structure.
• Persuasive Writing – Build strong arguments and learn the art of convincing others.
• Creative Nonfiction Writing – Blend real experiences with storytelling techniques.
• Speculative Writing – Imagine possibilities and bring “what if” scenarios to life.
• Reflective Writing – Transform thoughts, feelings, and experiences into meaningful personal expression.

Why Join:

Common Room

Common Room is an online platform that offers fun and engaging creative writing courses and resources for children of ages 9 to 15.

Traditionally, a common room is a shared lounge, often attached to dorm rooms in boarding schools, where students socialise, have late night study sessions, host house parties and engage in other after school activities. Drawing inspiration from this much loved space, Common Room is an initiative to create a shared virtual learning space for young learners, to engage in magical learning experiences.

The Young Writers Long Term course is delivered by Miss Vaijayanthi.

Vaijayanthi is a Cambridge Certified Teacher of English with experience teaching students from India and the UAE. She has delivered training to students of all age groups through her time at The Hindu.

In addition to her Cambridge CELTA certification, Vaijayanthi is also a Licensed Teacher in the UAE, the process of which has helped her gain insight on the learning needs of students of different nationalities.

She has joined Common Room to help children develop essential writing skills beyond their classrooms.
